| Dr. Paula Proffitt obtained her undergraduate degree from University of Illinois Chicago Circle campus in 1974. She went on to medical school at the University of Illinois Abraham Lincoln School of Medicine graduating in 1978 with her M.D. During the following year she completed her medical/psychiatric internship at Martin Luther King Hospital in Compton, CA, which included a psychiatric rotation at Los Angeles County Hospital. This was followed by a three-year residency in adult psychiatry at the Sepulveda VA Hospital affiliated with UCLA Medical Center. A two-year Child and Family fellowship was then completed at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles with an emphasis on psychodynamic and family-oriented approaches to patient problems. Dr. Proffitt then relocated to the San Diego area where she has had twenty years of varied experiences working with the adult, child and adolescent outpatient populations. Professional experiences include a private practice treating chronically mentally ill, depressive disorders, PTSD, child and family problems, ADHD, psychopharmacologic interventions as well as ongoing psychotherapy. |
