Specialty: Clinical Social Work
|Anthony Matthews is a licensed clinical social worker with a special emphasis on serving adults and geriatric populations. He obtained his Master of Social Work from San Diego State University. Mr. Matthews has extensive experience in treating a wide variety of issues that lead a person to seek out therapy. For the past five years he has been employed in clinical roles at the Department of Veterans Affairs. Prior to obtaining his Masters at SDSU, Mr. Matthews worked in planning and development for a non-profit community health center in Berkeley, CA.
Anthony Matthews believes that ultimately psychotherapy should be a rewarding experience that generates greater self-awareness and fosters personal growth. The process should also help to alleviate painful symptoms, like depression, loneliness, and anxiety. Psychotherapy helps clients identify the behaviors, thoughts, and unhelpful patterns that prevent the realization of one’s full potential in life. Overcoming difficult experiences in life presents a valuable opportunity for personal growth and healing. While he believes there is no "one-size-fits-all" approach to therapy, Mr. Matthews does support using evidence-based therapies as appropriate. He believes that patients generally possess the inner strength and resources necessary to confront the myriad challenges faced in life. Mr. Matthews values the relationship and rapport he has with his clients and believes that the therapeutic relationship is a collaboration.
