About Helena Dow, Psy.D., MFT

Dr. Helena Dow is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and a 2006 graduate of California School of Professional Psychology (CSPP), where she obtained a doctoral degree in Marriage and Family Therapy, a graduate of San Diego State University, where she obtained a Master of Science degree in Marriage and Family Therapy in 2000, as well as the equivalent of a Master of Arts degree in Educational Counseling.

Dr. Dow has a comprehensive clinical background and extensive training and experience in utilizing various therapeutic techniques and theoretical models. She provides individual, couple, family, and group therapy to children and adults of various age groups and backgrounds and addresses a variety of disorders and their related symptoms. Her experience includes work in outpatient programs in hospital settings treating patients with various chronic psychological conditions; crisis center treating patients with various addiction issues; hospice hospital settings where she did pre- and post- bereavement work; community college settings; community clinics; and public school settings where she was involved in wrap-around program involving various community agencies in her work with children and their families.

Dr. Dow is certified in Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), with an emphasis on couple's therapy. She additionally received a certificate in chemical dependency from the California School of Professional Psychology (CSPP) at Alliant International University. Dr. Dow is additionally certified as an Approved Supervisor by the American Association of Marriage and Family Therapy (AAMFT) and is also a clinical member of that association.

Dr. Dow is also a member of the adjunct faculty of Alliant International University and Brandman University where she teaches psychology and counseling courses. In addition, she supervises the live clinical work of marriage and family students in training.

She fosters a respectful, caring, and supportive therapeutic environment in her work with her clients. She is a native of Albania, where she obtained a Bachelor of Science Degree in the English language and literature, and also speaks fluent Albanian.
