About Karyn Donado, MFT

Karyn Donado is a Marriage and Family Therapist with over 17 years of experience in the mental health field. She has extensive experience with children, adolescents, and families. Karyn worked in the school setting where she provided individual and group therapy. She was also an AB2726 assessor who provided mental health assessments and case managed all levels of treatment, including outpatient, day treatment, and residential with the goal of facilitating academic success. For six years, Karyn managed one the of the largest children's mental health programs in San Diego County providing in-home services to the highest risk youth and their families. In this role, she supervised interns, licensed clinicians, and clinical supervisors. Karyn has professional and personal experience with the issues that military families face and has provided individual and couples therapy to service members and their spouses, and family therapy to military families. Karyn also supervised the Navy's rape crisis program and provided training and consultation to military leadership on sexual assault, domestic violence, and child abuse and neglect.

Karyn graduated from Chapman University in 1996 with a Master's in Psychology with a Marriage, Family and Child Counseling emphasis. She was licensed in 2002. Karyn enjoys working with school aged children, adolescents, and young adults. Her experience with children and adolescents includes treating ADHD, Oppositional-Defiant Disorder, Disruptive Behavior Disorder and other behavioral disorders, depression, anxiety, adjustment disorders, child abuse and neglect, substance abuse, and youth struggling with anger management. She also has experience in working with adults, couples, and families and has a special interest and expertise working with women's issues. Karyn has a problem-solving and behavioral approach and looks for the strengths in the individual, couple, or family as part of the solution.

Karyn is married and has a son. Her multi-ethnic background and bi-cultural marriage has provided her with first-hand experience for working with clients of diverse backgrounds.
