Kristin O'Connor is a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. She earned a Bachelor's of Science in Psychology from the University of California at Santa Cruz in 1999. She earned a Master's in Clinical Psychology from San Jose State University in 2003. In 2008 she became licensed by the California Board of Behavioral Sciences. Kristin has worked both in the school and outpatient settings. She has experience working with children, adolescents, adults, couples and families. She specialized in working with Child Welfare Services helping to work on family reintegration, childhood trauma and with foster youth.
Her clinical experience consists of working with many types of trauma including child abuse (physical, sexual and emotional), adult sexual trauma, domestic violence and PTSD. She also has worked with children, teens and adults coping with anxiety, depression, change of life situations (having a child, getting married), parent-child conflict, parenting and child and teen behavioral issues (ADHD/ADD and oppositional defiance). In addition, she has experience working with couples on such issues as communication difficulties and infidelity.
Kristin believes in adopting a collaborative approach with each client offering a relaxed, empathetic space where clients can safely express themselves. She believes in empowering her clients to make healthy changes to foster long term personal growth. Depending on each client’s needs, Kristin draws upon a variety of treatment approaches that include Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Trauma Focused- Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Mindfulness, play therapy and Family System Theory to best meet the needs of her clients.
