Dr. Mesco is certified in child and adolescent psychiatry and general psychiatry by the American
Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. A graduate of Princeton University, he received his medical
training and degree from Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine, his psychiatric residency
training at UMD New Jersey Medical School, and completed a two year fellowship in child and
adolescent psychiatry and developmental disabilities at UCLA Neuropsychiatric Institute.
For many years Dr. Mesco served as Area Child Psychiatrist for the Indian Health Service in
Albuquerque, where he was also assistant professor of psychiatry at the University of New
Mexico, director of the transcultural mental health curriculum, and taught psychopharmacology.
Thereafter he was Medical Director for Behavioral Health at Penrose-St. Francis Hospitals in
Colorado Springs, CO, and then Medical Director for Child and Adolescent Mental Health for
the island and county of Hawaii. As an associate professor of psychiatry at the University of
Hawaii School of Medicine, he also served as medical advisor to the Autism Society of Hawaii,
before entering full time private practice.
Dr. Mesco sees children and adolescents of all ages, as well as adults. He seeks to recognize the
unique strengths and abilities of each person, which may be masked by their life circumstances.
Particular interests are working with people facing co-existing developmental and/or medical
challenges, and the artistically, athletically, or intellectually gifted, to help them to grow and to learn how to maximize their potential as human beings, and to realize optimal levels of
functioning in life.
